Hello everyone!

Tomorrow (Friday) is a public holiday so tomorrow it is also a free day for the volunteers. For me the perfect timing to go and see the temples of Angkor Wat. But first let me tell you what I did the last couple of days;).

Because we are now only with 3 volunteers the schedule changed a bit. I still have my monks in the morning and the funny class and the computer class but in the evening I’m not going to chukk anymore instead I’m going to Roemdeen, another village in the khnar pho commune. There was much more need for help so that’s why we changed it. There Maly is teaching about 70 kids in one classroom. Can you imagine!! And her English is not so good. We are helping her with two volunteers but sometimes I get the feeling she doesn’t understand what I’m trying to say. So it is hard for us, but the kids again are great!

On Monday I also brought food to the families. Every week we bring food to 4 families in the commune because otherwise they won’t have enough. On Monday four families and on Thursday tree, each family gets 10 kilo of rice and one kilo of fish each week. There is one family that is living very far and we bring the food around on a motorbike (Don’t know if I told you yet, Cambodians put everything on a motorbike! 4/5 people is not a problem) and so for a ride of 45 minutes with ten kilo’s of rice and one kilo of fich I can tell you its not good for your ass. But the landscape is beautiful! And the last 15 minutes we didn’t really have a road! It was more like between bushes and grass and little rivers.

For the funny class we made this time flowers! They liked it very much and even other classes wanted to make flowers! :D. This morning there was no class for the monks because they had a big cleaning day and they are building a kitchen. So I helped to move the sand to another location. Because that location needed to be on the same height as the old kitchen. All the little children from primary and secondary school helped the monks with everything. We moved the sand on something that looked like a brandcard. You had 4 pieces of wood with a kind of canvas in between. I think it would take them a couple of months to complete the job!! So everybody is helping them day and night. I will post some picture later on ;).

I finally also learned to count till ten in Khmer!! Haha after tree weeks finally ;p. the language is so different from ours. The writing is almost like drawing and the sound of it pff lets just say its difficult.

Did you know that:

- Yesterday in the evening I was cold! And that was the reason I put on a sweater. ( I think it was about 25 degrees)

- Cambodians can buy their school certificate!

- They also can pay the teacher at a test day a couple of dollars so that he will reveal the correct answers!

- You never know how your day is going to look like in the morning

- You even bargain on the smallest amounts of money, for example 3 dollars for a t-shirt!

- You can buy a bottle of water in chukk for only 500 riel (0.15 eurocent)

- That Yanthe (other volunteer) and I tried about 25 pieces of different kinds of candy in chukk and that we only liked 3 of them!

- Before I want to shower or go to the toilet I need to get water form the water pump.

- We made pancakes yesterday!

- And that we usually eat rice with chili sauce and vegetables or pasta with chili sauce and vegetables or noodles with chili sauce and vegetables.

- You can buy fruit shakes everywhere! This is my new addiction here in Cambodia :)

I think that’s it for today

See you when you see me :)

    hoiii jacqueline,
